Where the data comes from, and why we sometimes wait.

Where the results come from

IRONMAN race results are published by IRONMAN (through the Competitor Group platform) and by the official timing companies. Both channels forbid, in their terms of use, automated extraction and republication of the data without written permission.

That is why Smilzo does not scrape ironman.com, competitor.com or the timing companies' sites. Results enter the archive only through authorised channels: an openly licensed dataset, the official Competitor API (on request of a key), or exports provided by organisers or timing companies with their consent.

The current source: an open scientific dataset

The results in the archive today come from "A dataset of 2.7 million IRONMAN triathlon records with transition times (2002-2026)" by Seffrin A., Nikolaidis P.T., Andrade M.S., Villiger E., Rosemann T., Weiss K., Ferreira D. and Knechtle B., published on Zenodo (doi:10.5281/zenodo.22097794, v3.0.0) under the CC BY 4.0 licence, alongside the peer-reviewed article doi:10.3390/sci8090265. The dataset is de-identified: it contains bib, age group, country, split times and placings, but no names.

What we show

For each row: bib, age group, country, split times, finish time and placings. No names, no photos, no profiles. Smilzo is about statistics (age-group thresholds, distributions, comparisons across editions), not about people.

Your rights

If you appear in a ranking and want your row removed or further anonymised, write to us. No reason needed.

Attribution

Every edition states the source its results were loaded from. IRONMAN, IRONMAN 70.3 and 5150 are trademarks of their owners; Smilzo is not affiliated with IRONMAN.
